"OUR STORY"
K-J Aussies is nestled in the foothills of Battle Ground, WA. What started as a love of the working Australian Shepherd has grown into a passionate program to preserve the traditional style working Aussie. The direction of our program is driven by the criteria we have adopted from established breeders and kennels that consistently produce dogs with the characteristics that we personally prefer. First and foremost, we believe that this breed originated as a working stockdog, and that is what these dogs should be. We want our dogs to have the traditional old style Aussie appearance. Moderate in height and weight, athletically built, keen dogs that are intelligent, biddable, and have a strong working instinct even at a young age. Strongly loyal and protective of "their own",
but not aggressive to people or other dogs. They are easily trained, tough
enough to get the job done, but sensible enough to be house dogs and companions. We strive to incorporate dogs of the old bloodlines of the Las Rocosa, Slash V, and Hangin Tree programs as close up in our breeding program as possible. With Carol's background associated in and around veterinary medicine and livestock breeding our program has zero tolerance for genetic faults. Bloodlines, individuals, and matings are not incorporated into our program without extensive historical research based on fact - not gossip, rumors, or personal opinions. To date we have not kept or produced an individual that has OCD, dysplasia (shoulder or hip), cataracts, or epilepsy. All dogs have full dentition and scissor bite, and are sound both physically and mentally. Dogs from our program have been successful in every capacity as dictated by their owners lifestyle, from every day ranch work and competitive trial dogs, to service, protection, and companion dogs.
